Follow Friday!

Q. If you could have dinner with your favorite book character who would you eat and what would you serve?

A. Since I just read Dirty Girls On Top, I would want to eat with UsNavys because she was fun and loves to eat. We would eat at a fancy restaurant and I would order whatever she ordered and see if I could keep up.

Book Review: Mai Tai One by Jill Marie Landis

Publisher: Bell Bridge Books (8/24/2011)
Source: NetGalley
Genre: Mystery
Summary from Goodreads:
Six months ago, if anyone would have told Em Johnson she'd end up divorced, broke, and running the dilapidated Tiki Goddess Bar on the magical North Shore of Kauai she would have told them to shove a swizzle stick up their okole.

As if all that isn't bad enough, when an obnoxious neighbor with a grudge is found dead in the Goddess luau pit, suspicion falls on Em and the rest of the Goddess staff. With the help of a quirky dance troupe of over-the-hill Hula Maidens, Em and the cast of characters must ban together to find the killer and solve the mystery before the next pupu party.
My Review:
This is the first book in the Tiki Goddess series. This is the first time I've read a book based in Hawaii. I liked it. This story was something different. I felt like I was on The Island sipping on a Mai Tai. This book has it all: a little romance, a little murder and the Hawaiian atmosphere. This is the type of book that you can read and it makes you feel like you are on a vacation. My favorite characters were the Hula Maidens because they were "I Love Lucy" or a "Golden Girls" type of funny.

Book Review: Vows, Vendettas and a Little Black Dress by Kyra Davis

Summary:
In Vows, Vendettas and a Little Black Dress by Kyra Davis, we meet up with Sophie, Dena and Maryanne celebrating Maryanne's engagement to her boyfriend. Since this is a Sophie Katz novel, somebody mysteriously gets shot which means that Sophie will want to find out who done it and why (with a coffee beverage in hand, of course) whether she gets help or not. Leah, her sister, Marcus, the witty gay hairstylist, Maryanne, Dena's childlike cousin, and Anatoly, Sophie's boyfriend are all here to help make this book entertaining and fun as only a Sophie Katz novel can be.

My Review:
This is book 5 in the Sophie Katz series. Sophie is still with Anatoly and she is still crazy, but I like a little crazy. I was shocked that Dena got shot. Under the circumstances, we got  to meet Dena's parents and why she is the way she is. It was very interesting. The way the book is written even if you haven't read all of the series, you can get caught up with the characters. It was a good book overall. I couldn't put it down. I know Anatoly is the love interest and he's fine and everything, but he's starting to get on my nerves. They are starting to fight like Ron and Sammi from the Jersey Shore. He's still a stranger to Sophie and she knows it. I think she needs a new boy toy. The end cliffhanger was very good which means there will be another book coming. I think it's going to be juicy. I personally think that this series should be a TV show or movie. It has romance, action, and drama. It was a fabulous read as usual.

Follow Friday

Follow Friday is a meme hosted by Parajunkie and Allison Can Read every friday.

This week's question: If you could pick one character in a book, movie, or TV show to swap places with who would it be?
This is a hard question. For the book and movie character, I would swap with Rebecca Bloomwood from Confessions of a Shopaholic, since I love to shop. For a TV show character, I wouldn't mind being Dr. Bailey from Grey's Anatomy because her man friends are fine. Especially the nurse. I forgot his name. :-)
