Review: The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness by La La Anthony

Title: The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex and Happiness

Author: La La Anthony with Karen Hunter

Publisher: Celebra

Pub date: 1/28/2014

Source: Library

My Review:

This book is described in the flap as a "guide to finding love, building healthy relationships and being true to yourself". La La takes from her own life experiences and gives examples of what to do and what not to do in romantic relationships. This book felt like an autobiography with relationship and life advice mixed in coming from a long time friend over coffee. I got an insight into who La La is as a person not just the celebrity we see on TV. She is a real down to earth person with really good advice  La La uses basketball analogy to get her point across in each of the chapters. Overall, this is a fabulous read that gives a modern take on advice on love and life.

Review: Treasure Yourself by Miranda Kerr

Title: Treasure Yourself: Power Thoughts for My Generation

Author: Miranda Kerr

Publisher: Hay House

Pub date: 12/3/2012

Summary from Goodreads:

In Treasure Yourself, international supermodel Miranda Kerr offers her own view on how her generation and those following can achieve greater health and happiness. Miranda believes that one of the most powerful tools to facilitate change is positive affirmation and she has collected over 100 affirmations from some of the world's most inspirational authors including Louise L. Hay, Wayne W. Dyer, Deepak Chopra and many more.

This is a book for empowering young girls and helping them boost their self-esteem. I like that she has questions at the end of the sections, so it can be used like a workbook. This book was colorful with butterflies and flowers in it. It's a very girly book. My favorite parts were the pictures of her and her family. She looks exactly the same from when she was a baby. I also like the affirmations/power thoughts in the back of the book.

Book Review: Lessons from Madame Chic: 20 Stylish Secret I Learned While Living In Paris by Jennifer L. Scott

Title: Lessons from Madame Chic: 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living in Paris

Author: Jennifer L. Scott

Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Pub Date: 11/6/2012

Source: Edelweiss

Summary from Goodreads:
Bring home the chic Parisian world of style and charm  When Jennifer Scott arrived at the doorstep of a grand Sixteenth Arrondissement apartment as a foreign exchange student, she was greeted by the woman who would become her mentor and the inspiration for the way she lived long after her time abroad was over. Madame Chic took the casual California teenager under her wing, revealing the secrets of how the French elevate the little things in life to the art of living.

Each chapter of Lessons from Madame Chic reveals a valuable secret Jennifer learned while under Madame Chic’s tutelage in Paris—tips you can incorporate into your own life, no matter where you live or the size of your budget. Embracing the classically French aesthetic of quality over quantity, aspiring Parisiennes will learn to master the art of eating (deprive yourself not), dressing (the ten-item wardrobe), grooming (le no-makeup look), and living à la française. From entertaining with easy flair and formality to cultivating allure while living an active, modern life, Lessons from Madame Chic is the essential handbook for anyone wanting to incorporate that Parisian je ne sais quoi into her daily life.

My review/thoughts:

This book by Jennifer L. Scott is about how to incorporate french values into your everyday life. When I was reading it, I was like I know about this and I've never been to Paris. It reinforced things my mom already told me. It's a great book for people that need a little help on style, entertaining, being organized, being positive and to always look presentable, even while asleep. My favorite part of the book was when she gave stories of when she was in Paris since I've never been. I also like the Le Recap of each chapter. This book is great for people who love French culture or want to learn more about it. The author also has her own website: The Daily Connoisseur. This book was a fabulous read. It's full of wisdom and great advice.

Review: Where's the Nearest Day Spa? Renewing the Anxious Heart by Emily Smith

Title: Where's the Nearest Day Spa? Renewing the Anxious Heart

Author: Emily Smith

Publisher: Barbour Publishing, Inc.

Pub Date: 7/1/2012

Summary from Goodreads & Amazon:

Where’s the Nearest Day Spa? Renewing the Anxious Heart offers a fresh perspective on worries and fears. Short, easy-to-read chapters—overflowing with humor and insightful Bible-based encouragement—will inspire a new outlook, as you begin to embrace the spiritual and emotional R&R that only the heavenly Father provides.

My thoughts/review:
This book is full of great biblical advice on anxiety and worry. The advice is don't worry. This is great for nervous people that need a little reminder every now and then. It is a fast read with questions at the end of each chapter with space for notes to answer the questions. The beginning of chapter each is pretty funny. She ties in her spa experiences to the bible verses in each chapter. The colors of the book are calming with the light blues and flowers. This book would be great for a women's bible study group or solo bible study.

 My thoughts/review:
I found this book to be very encouraging. Valorie coaches you throughout the book and all you have to do is have a notebook and pen ready. She asks important, key questions that will have you thinking and discovering new things about yourself. After I read this book, I felt empowered to do what I needed to do in order to be a better me. My favorite part of the book was the stories of the women who were successful, and who she coached. The examples made it come alive and made it plain just in case you didn't get what she meant the first time. I also liked the end of each chapter where she wrapped it up so you wouldn't forget what you were reading and why.  I recommend this book to women who need to be inspired, want to start over in their lives, or just feel the need to improve upon themselves. This was a fabulous read and I enjoyed it!
