Review: Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin
I've finally read Something Borrowed. I read it after I saw the movie and the book is better than the movie. I had a better understanding of the movie after reading the book. It was really good. I liked it.
This book is about Rachel White. She's the best friend of Darcy who is getting married to Dexter. Rachel is the Maid of Honor. She is the good girl who follows the rules until she sleeps with her best friend's fiance' on her thirtieth birthday. It's basically about friendships and betrayal. I liked that it was told in Rachael's voice.
Rachel is like the insecure friend that just coasts along and does everything Darcy says. Darcy came off as bossy, narcissistic and pushy. It was almost like you wanted Rachel to take Dexter from Darcy because Darcy is the "chosen one" who gets everything she wants. Dexter wasn't really all that important. He wasn't a strong character. I didn't like him. I felt like he was stringing Rachel along at times. I liked Dex at the end. The ending was familiar to me because I read Something Blue and I was like 'Hey, I know these people!' It was in that book, but through Darcy's eyes.
I loved this book. I felt like I was in New York at the bars and The Hamptons. Emily writes to where you feel like you are living in the book like a mini vacation. It was fabulous.
